There were no timestamps in my notes for this day, so it's a bit rough..

I got up, I don't know what time, I think it was fairly late, my mate was already up (so it must have been late).

My mate's wife was doing some washing, and asked if I had anything I needed washed, so I gave her a couple of hawaiian shirts I'd worn on the way up here.

I thought we were planning to go to the Bundaberg rum factory today, so I went and had a shower, and got dressed, ready to go there, but then they said we were going to the beach this morning.

I got changed again, into my beach gear, and we got ready to go down to the beach.

We loaded the surfboard in the car, hanging out the window, I jumped in the other car, with my mate's wife, her brother, and their Mum driving, and we went back to the beach we'd gone to on Sunday.

We parked up, my mate grabbed the board out of the car, and we all wandered down to the beach.

We went into the surf, and mucked around with the surfboard for a while, I don't remember how much time we spent down there, I think it was a bit after an hour.

Just as we were planning to leave, my mate's stepfather in law turned up, so we left the surfboard with him, and then we left, and came home again.

I went and had a shower, and got changed.

When I came back to the back verandah, someone had gone and got the junk food we'd bought yesterday, cakes and icecream, and we sat and ate that.

I went and grabbed another couple of VBs, it's horrid shit, but I didn't want to be drinking spirits yet.

We sat around out here for ages, just chatting.

Someone said something about the photos on the old computer again, so I decided I should go and try to sort that out, rather than having to do it tomorrow morning before we leave.

I went in, and dragged the old pc back out of the cupboard where they'd shoved it, and plugged it all back in, and booted it up.

I was trying to avoid having to do too much mucking around, I didn't want to have to pull the hard drive out and put it in the other machine, so I tried to find a way to avoid that.

First I asked for the camera, and found the cable, and plugged that all in, figuring that I could load the photos from the hard drive back into the camera.

It didn't work like that, first it didn't turn up as a drive, like I expected it to, so I had to use the photo software, and after mucking around with that for too long, trying to add photos to an album or something, I realised that it actually hadn't made any difference to the memory in the camera. D'oh.

Ok, next option, my mate still has like 3.5GB free on his ipod, I can use that to store the files, and then drag them back out on the other machine.

I plugged it in, and it detected the USB storage device etc, and I fiddled around getting that in device mangler etc, but there was no extra drive available after doing that. Argh.

I gave up at this point, and figured I'd just do it the way I knew would work.. pull the disk out, mount it in the other pc, and copy the photos across disks, it'll be faster anyway.

(Actually, what I didn't think of until later, was perhaps I should have rebooted with the ipod attached, I might have got a drive letter then).

So, I shut the machine down, and opened the case, and ripped the disk out, and then I opened the new PC we'd brought up, and I plugged the disk into one of the spare ide connectors, and just let it hang out the side.

I booted up the pc, and went about finding all their pictures, and copying them across.

Since I had it configured like this, I figured I might as well move their data across, there could be letters and stuff they need, so I just started copying across anything that looked useful.

Several times the virus scanner arced up, because there was all sorts of junk files on the disk.

About this time they started talking about going for dinner, we'd been talking earlier, and decided to go to Sizzlers for dinner, so I left the machine, and we jumped in 2 cars, and headed off to Sizzlers.

We went in, we all decided to have the salad bar, except for my mate's stepfather in law, who wanted a steak.

Once everyone had worked out what they wanted, I paid for everyone's dinner (since I'd hadn't been paying for very much this trip so far), and we went in and ate.

After dinner, we sat and chatted for a bit, and then we decided to go home, going for a bit of a drive around, because I hadn't seen much of Bundaberg.

We went out to the cars, jumped in, and my mate was driving, we followed the other car.

A couple of minutes after leaving, a cat ran across the road in front of the other car, they slammed on the brakes, and just missed it, the cat kept going across the road, and disappeared into a yard.

We kept going, driving around, I couldn't really see all that much, considering it was dark, being night, and also because Bundaberg isn't much bigger than Newcastle, so once we got off the main road, it just looked like any other suburb.

We got back close to their home, and in the last couple of kilometres, the car in front was swerving to hit cane toads on the road, and my mate swerved to hit any of the ones they missed.

We got back home, and I continued working on the computer.

Once I'd made sure to copy over all the files they might want, I copied the virus scanner install program, and adaware install on to the disk, shut the machine down, and put the disk back in the original machine.

I booted the other pc back up, with its disk reinstalled, and then I installed the virus scanner, and adaware.

At this point I realised I couldn't update the virus scanner, and it was ages old, so I took the disk out, put it back in the new machine again, and I virus scanned it with the new machine, which had been updated a couple of days ago when I built the machine.

I virus scanned the disk, it took ages, and at the end of it, there had been over 1700 virus infected files on the disk. No wonder the machine was so slow.

I shut it down again, and put the disk back in the original machine, I installed adaware, and ran that, and cleaned all the junk off, several hundred files it came up with.

I don't understand how people can let their machine end up like this.

Anyway, after I finished with that, I shut the machine down, and I put the machine back together, and I put the cover back on the other machine.

I checked the laptop that my mate's brother in law had, and it didn't have any virus protection or anything on it either, so I grabbed my usb memory key thing, and I installed the antivirus software and adaware on the laptop.

I grabbed the phone line out of the new computer, and plugged it into the laptop, thinking I'd dialup to update the virus scanner, but then I figured I couldn't be bothered. It'll update the next time it goes on the internet, and if it doesn't go on the internet, then it probably doesn't need the latest definitions.

Just as I started running the virus scan, the power went off.

Someone made a smartass comment about me working on the computer, and I was able to retort that they were both turned off, and I was working on the laptop, and the battery was charged.

I kept working on the laptop, and about a minute later, the power came back on again.

When I finished on the laptop, I plugged the new machine back in, boxed up the old one, dragged it back and put it in the cupboard again.

After that I went and sat in the loungeroom to watch some tv, and relax, I'm sick to death of mucking around on computers.

My mate's brother in law went in and turned the new computer on, and tried to dialup, then came out whinging that it wouldn't connect.

I went back in, and had a look, and it was coming up saying there was no dialtone. I grabbed the phone, and checked it, there wasn't a dialtone.

Someone went and checked a different phone, same thing, no dialtone, strange. I wondered if it was something to do with the blackout, like the exchange had blacked out too or something.

I checked all the phone cords, that no one had tripped over and pulled it out, or done something to cause the extension cord to get shorted out, but I couldn't find anything.

I wondered if the modem was doing something funny, I reached around behind the computer to unplug the phone line.. and found it plugged into the network card. Uhh..

I checked the phone, oh wow, a dialtone. I plugged the phone line back into the computer, into the modem this time, and then was able to dialup to the internet without issue.

I went back to the loungeroom, and parked myself watching the tv again.

When whatever we were watching finished, my mate's stepfather and mother in law went to bed, so we went and sat out the back.

We were out there for a little while, and my mate's brother in law came out, and sat and chatted with us.

We chatted for a few hours, and had a few drinks, we finished off the bottle of rum from last night, listened to some music, and then we went to bed about 2am.
