Woo, I'm finally up to blogging this month. Only 20 days behind now..
I woke up, it was about 9am.
I got up, had a shower and got ready, had breakfast, and left for work.
I got to work 10.30am. The woman who used to run the old system (before I redeveloped it) was back, she's been in Germany for the last few weeks.
I cracked right into coding the data entry interface of the new system. This was supposed to be at a workable point early last week, and until it works, there's a bunch of people they've hired sitting around not able to do much.
I need to have this working before I leave tomorrow night, since I'm only in today and tomorrow, and then I'm getting my bike serviced, and on Friday I'm riding to Bundaberg.
Anyway, I sat there, and I got stacks of work done on the loading interface.
The administrator of the old system came to talk to me for a bit, because she's been suggesting things for the new system. She gave me a chocolate from Belgium, it was terrific.
I got back to work, and got more work done, I was getting somewhere, but there's still tons of work to do before this is usable.
At about 11.50am the phone rang. It was the guy in the motorbike clothing place on the way to work, my gloves had come in. I said I'd be up there shortly, and got off the phone.
I did another few minutes work, finishing up the bit I was working on. I went out to my bike, and I rode up to the bike place, and I picked up the gloves, and paid for them. It was now about 12.20pm.
I wore them back from there, they're an alright fit, but still a bit tight, I suppose they'll stretch a little bit.
On the way back to work, I went for a little ride around town, and I parked near the bank near the mall. I went into the shopping centre, and bought myself a couple of pies for lunch, and a drink.
I went back to my bike, loaded the stuff, and rode back to the office. I sat at my desk, ate my lunch, and continued working.
I found a couple of bugs in the production system, so I sorted them out, that took a little while. I can't spend much time on the production stuff, I really need to finish developing the data entry interface.
I kept working on the data entry interface, and got it to the point where I needed to create another Oracle table, and I really couldn't be bothered to do it at this point, working out the data types, field sizes etc, I figured I'd do that tomorrow morning, so I just did a bit of a cleanup on the code I'd written.
The guy from upstairs called me about 5pm, he was leaving, and wanted to know if I wanted to go to the pub or whatever. I said it sounded like a good idea, so I went down, and we walked to the pub.
I sat and had a soft drink with the others at the pub, and we chatted for a while.
Someone mentioned that the chick who'd left last week had had a bike accident, apparently her parents have a farm up north a bit somewhere, and on Sunday, she'd dropped a dirt bike on herself, and broken her arm and leg, so she was in hospital or something. Not very good.
I asked where everyone was at lunch time, since I didn't hear from anyone (and I usually do), it turns out that a few of the IT guys had been at one of the other sites, down the road a bit, that we use as the data centre, sorting out backup tapes or something.
Apparently there's an adult shop next to the building there, and two of the IT guys had gone in there, they hadn't managed to get the other guy to go in with them.
They mentioned that there was a Paris Hilton blow up doll in there.. for $1500! Christ. I don't think the real one costs that much.
We chatted a bit more, and around 6pm, I decided I'd go back to work, because my mind had been ticking away on some stuff while I was in the pub, and I decided to go back and code it while I was still thinking about it.
I headed back to work, got the stuff in, tested it, looking good. I ended up doing another hour of work, but it sorted out stuff I had been expecting me to take a few hours to do.
While I was back at work, I called up my mate at Wyong that fixes PCs, to see if I could find out about a floppy drive, since we forgot to get one for the machine we're taking to Bundaberg.
He didn't have any new floppy drives, only old ones (which I'm not going to bother with, why would you, when a new one is only $10, and second hand ones rarely work properly).
He said he'd call a guy he knows, find out if he had any, and sort out me picking it up on my way home tomorrow or something.
I got off the phone, and was thinking about going home. I called the guy from upstairs, to find out if they'd got organised enough to go and get some dinner yet, he said they were going down shortly.
I finished up, and I walked back to the pub again. I got there a bit after 7pm. We sat there for a little while, they finished their drinks etc, and then we walked down to another pub, where we usually get dinner.
We got in there, and I ordered dinner, I was starving, so I got the mixed grill, which it claims is "not for the faint hearted", I'll have a good crack at that. I also ordered a soft drink, and paid, and went out to wait with the others, who had already ordered.
One of the others had ordered a bottle of wine, so they brought that out, and I had a glass of that, since there was no sign of my soft drink, maybe it will come out with dinner or something.
We sat and chatted a bit more for a while, and then the food started coming out. I received my meal, a huge plate of food, but the drink didn't turn up. I wasn't all that worried, so I didn't say anything.
We ate our food, it was a pretty good meal, but I managed to finish it with no great issue, and could have eaten a bit more, but I refrained from pinching the salad and chips off the plates of the others who had finished eating.
A woman from work turned up, with her daughter, and she chatted to us for a while, and her daughter ate some of what was left of the guy from upstairs' steak (he ordered a huge steak, and then didn't eat very much of it).
She ended up hanging around for quite a while, just chatting to us, and then she left, and I left not long after, about 9.30pm I think it was, and headed for home.
I would have got home about 10.40pm probably, and then I bummed around on the computer for a bit, and went to bed not long after, so I could get up at some reasonable time in the morning, to get back to work early.
