I woke up early as usual, but I got up early for once, so I could have a lot of time at work today, if I needed it.

I was hoping to have all the work done by midday, so I could leave early this afternoon, but I doubted it would actually happen.

Anyway, I got up about 8am, and had a shower etc, and got ready for work.

I left home at 8.40am, and I rode to work, getting fuel on the way as usual.

When I got near work, I ended up behind a cop car, I just followed along, they were going like 40 or something, in a 60 zone. FInally they pulled over, and I kept going, watching in my mirror, they did a U turn, and took off. Dunno what's going on there, maybe they were lost or something.

I got a bit further to work (this was all within about 2ks of work), and after going around the corner, some idiot just starts changing lanes on top of me, so I had to beep my horn (still got that pissy horn on there, because I never got around to finish mounting the air horn), and then I got to work.

I got back into it, I made up the Oracle table I needed, entered some test data, and then it all looked like it was working. They'd told me a couple of days ago about the security that they needed implemented, I'd started coding that in yesterday, so I worked a bit more on that.

I had to edit all the screens and forms I'd already done to add that in, which was a bit of a pain, but anyway. Once I'd done all that, I had to take a break for a bit, to clear my mind, so I went to see the guy upstairs, and find out what was going on.

While I was up there, my phone rang, it was the guy from the bike service place, where I was taking my bike tomorrow. He told me that he'd not been able to find the seal they had (the correct one, to replace the wrong one Yamaha originally sent). He'd tried to order another one, but Yamaha were out of stock again, I'm back to square 1, this is what happened before, and it took 6 weeks to get the seals.

Argh. He said he had the rest of the stuff though, clutch plates, and brake pads, so we were right to fit that. He asked me when I'd be dropping the bike off, and I said it wasn't today, because I was at work, but I said I might be dropping it off tonight, after hours, so they could get started on it first thing in the morning.

He thought about it, but there's no after hours key dropoff, and my bike would have been sitting in a commercial/light industrial area all night, which he didn't like the thought of, so I said I'd just drop it off in the morning then, he told me he wouldn't be there until about 9.30am, so I said I'd drop it off after that.

I got off the phone, and then three of us decided to go out for lunch. We walked to the cafe down the road we've been going to, and ordered lunch.

A few minutes later, a couple of other people from work came in, and sat with us.

We ate our lunches, and chatted with the other people who'd come in for a bit, and then I took off, and headed back to work. I still had a few more hours of work to get through today, I had been done as quickly as I'd hoped.

I got back to work, and continued on the data entry interface. At the last minute, they sprang on me the fact that they needed to be able to upload files along with the data that was going into Oracle. The files just had to go on the filesystem, not in Oracle or anything, but the files had to be renamed to match some of the data that was going into Oracle, so there was a way to link the files to the records.

Argh. I rushed into trying to find how to do that, thankfully the php documentation is pretty good, so I found some example code, and was able to chunk that in pretty quickly, but then I found that it wouldn't work, the file wouldn't actually get uploaded.

I was tearing my hair out, I have to get this working today. I checked all the necessary settings, php.ini settings relating to uploads etc, the upload directory, permissions, all sorts of stuff.

I kept mucking around with it, it just seemed broken. I was continually trying to upload files to test it, different files each time, eventually one of the files went up.

What I discovered, was that I thought the max upload file size in the php.ini file was in kilobytes, not bytes, so I had an upload maximum of 16k, instead of 16M specified, and I'd been trying to upload files of a few hundred k, until that last one, a text file or something.

Phew, at least it works. I fixed the settings, and turned off all the debugging stuff I'd added to allow me to try to work out what was going on.

It was finally all working, and usable. It was about 5pm now, good.

I setup a production instance of the interface (since I have a development environment that I work in), and I went over and saw the people who have been hired to load the data, and I showed them how to use it.

It all seemed to be working, and they were happy with it. I noticed a couple of things that didn't work properly in internet exploitme, which they were using, rather than Firefox, which I've been using for development/testing.

I said it was just stuff I'd have to fix when I got back, but it didn't stop them from being able to use it, there were just a couple of niceties that didn't work.

It took me about 1/2 hour to show them the procedure from start to finish. I'd like to think it was fairly self explanatory, and they didn't seem to have any questions about anything, so that was good.

After that, we just chatted for a bit, becuase they knew I was going off for a week.

I finished up about 6pm, grabbed my stuff, and prepared to leave. I was just about to leave, when I remembered about the floppy drive I was trying to sort out. I called up my mate in Wyong, and asked him about it.

He'd called the guy he knows, but he didn't have any floppy drives either, so that was the end of that. I said I'd be in Brisbane on Saturday, so I could probably get one there somewhere.

I grabbed my stuff, and I left, and rode for home. I didn't know this would be last time I'd be riding home from work for a few months (but I'll come back to that in a blog in about a week).

On the way home, after getting off the freeway, an ambulance was rushing somewhere, so I pulled over and let it pass, it went through the speed camera, and it went off, heh.

I kept going, and went to the supermarket to get dinner. Bugger, I finished all the breakfast cereal this morning, and didn't think about it, so I didn't bring my backpack, and I can't buy more, because I've no way to get it home on my bike. I just bought muesli bars instead.

I didn't end up with much, because there's no point stocking up on food, just to leave it at home for a week.

On the way through the checkout, the woman commented on the frozen meal I was buying (dinner). "Is this dinner?" or something she asked, "yeah". "What are they like, they don't look like much", "it's just food" was my reply. She found that somewhat disturbing and humerous at the same time I think.

I finished there, paid, went loaded up my bike and headed for home. It started to rain a bit on the way. I noticed the bottlo near my place was still open, so I stopped in and got a 6 pack of bundy and coke cans.

I came home, made dinner, and ate it, and had a couple of cans.

I played the guitar for a bit, and then I put "Sneakers" (the movie) on, and went to bed to watch it.

I heard Dad get home about 11.50pm. I watched the movie until about 12.30am, and then I paused it, and turned the tv off.
