I didn't wake up until after 10am again. crap.
I got up, got ready.
I want to get the train down again, so I can drink, because I'm going down to Coogee to see MC5 tonight.
There's a train at 10.55. I'm not going to make it, I'm not even going to bother trying. there's another train at 11.15, but it's all stations, and ends up getting there over 1/2 hour later, at nearly 1pm. ugh. Oh well, nothing I can do about it.
I got the stuff I'd need, tickets, my backpack etc, big big lock cable thing, I decided to take my old radio instead of my cd player which has pretty much shit itself over the last couple of weeks, and now I can hardly hear the music for all the mpeg blipping and blopping over the top of it. Crap thing.
I bid on a new on on eBay a couple of days ago, but got outbid, I haven't tried again.
Anyway, I took my stuff, and left.
I rode to the station, parked up, locked my bike to the railing, and went to the station.
I bought a single ticket to work, if I'm lucky, I can use it to come a couple of stations back up the line later. I only had a $50 note left, and the guy had no change, so I ended up with a $10 note, and a whole bunch of $5 notes. great.
Good timing, I got on to the platform less than 10 minutes before the train was due. While I took my time, knowing I wasn't going to make that first train, even if I had rushed, there was no way in hell I would have made it.
I've got a shocking headache, and there's no panadol at home. I'll get some when I get to work.
I got on the train, got my radio out, and fiddled with it. Useless thing, it can barely pick anything up. The fact I grabbed the almost flat batteries out of a remote control to run it probably don't help.
I got half the way there, changed trains, got to the station where work is at about 12.45pm.
The ticket gate was flapping open as usual, good, it won't take my ticket.
I spotted a couple of guys from work having lunch, I wandered over, chatted to them for a few minutes.
I went into the supermarket and got some water and panadol, then I came out, went to McRonalds, and got a couple of cheeseburgers.
I went over to work, and got started.. ooh, only after 1pm now, early today :-)
the machine I'm trying to extract data from hadn't rebooted properly again this morning, so my cron job hadn't kicked off, and we've just lost the last 8 hours or so. great.
I got it going, and decided to just hammer the machine, to see if I could make up for it.
I bummed around with that for a while, the guy I work with asked me to do a bit of web design for him, he wanted the ability to select different databases for applications to connect to.. should be easy, I'lll just do it as a form.
Not so easy. I thought all the links where a form submission, some are, some aren't, and there are severl different forms.
I looked at getting some javascript to change the action of a form on the fly, to see if that would work, nope, still no good.. won't work for the stuff that's not a form submission link.
I eventually decided I needed to give in and learn a bit of javascript, instead of just fluking and finding something that fits what I'm trying to do.
It took me several hours, but I got there.
I hate javascript. If there's a dumb error, like a missing quote or something, instead of being like PHP which would give you a useful error, javascript just goes "object expected" or some rubbish. great.
I called up my mates about 6pm to see where they were, just leaving home.
I got a call from my mate about 7pm, they were getting off the freeway.
I finished up at work, went across to the train. The gate was still open, so I just wandered in, I got on the train, travelled back a couple of stations, got off where I used to work during 2000/2001, and that station is run by ticket nazis, so all the gates were shut of course, didn't matter, I had a valid ticket. I got through.
I waited around outside for a few minutes, my mates turned up, and I jumped in the car.
We headed towards the city.
We waited to get through the toll booths to get into the harbour tunnel, we got stuck in the change lane, even though we didn't need change.
The automatic lane went past it, my mate tried to get over, but there was no gaps (and no one would let us in of course).
A car went past with a few chicks in it, the chick driving was looking over as she went past, not bad at all.
Her lane (the auto lane) got banked up, so we were able to move forward a bit, we ended up alongside them, the chicks in the car smiled at us, I smiled and nodded back, then the chick drive gave a little wave, so I waved back, and then their lane moved forward, and that was the end of that.
In hindsight, I should have got out and jogged down to have a chat, they hadn't got far in front of us, but then they were able to keep going, we were still stuck in the change lane, and they were gone.
A short while later my mate was able to get over into the auto lane, through the toll booth, and we kept going. The chicks were long gone.
We headed down to Coogee, the signage is a bit poor, but we found it.
I'd actually stayed down there, a couple of years ago, but didn't even realise.
We parked, wandered over to the hotel. Got there right on 8pm, good timing.
We grabbed a drink, chatted for a bit, and when we were finished (no glass allowed) we headed in.
On the way in, some guy asked me if I'd been to see The Who, and what night etc. Apparently he'd gone to last night's performance, but had to leave, to go to MC5's performance (he was something to do with organisation of MC5 I assume).
My mates went to the loo, I wandered around and had a look at the stage, I wandered over near the bar.
I'd worn the other The Who shirt I bought on eBay recently, some guy asked me if I went the other day, we chatted for a bit, my mates came back, we all had a chat for quite a while.
The first band came on, about 8.15pm, "Giants of Science" I think they were called. They were ok, but I got a bit sick of them towards the end.
The next band came out about 1/2 hour later (around 9.20pm I think), "Young Heart Attack" from Texas, they were ok, but as with the first band, I got a bit sick of them, because it just sounded like they were playing the same song about 10 times.
My mates and I made our way to the front near the stage.
It took them ages to get all the gear off the stage, and redo it for MC5. they removed everything, and completely redid the stage, instruments, cables, mics, mic stands, speakers, everything.
They finished setting up, and MC5 finally came on about 10.55pm.
It was good to start with, I was having a pretty good time.
After about 1/2 hour, the crowd started pissing me off. It was fully of bogans and dickheads. Everyone was too close together, and there was too much pushing and shoving going on.
It got worse from there, some completely drunk idiot kept pushing his way in, and falling all over everybody, before people got pissed off and started shoving him out, only to have him come back again a minute later.
More people kept pushing in, and was too hot, and there was too much smoke.
Some guy who was covered with sweat started pushing all over me. Disgusting. I elbowed him away a bit. he just kept on and on, I put up with it for about 10 minutes before I had to move away, if I'd had something sharp to hand, I probably would have stabbed him by the end, he pissed me off so much.
The drunk guy came back in again, and was getting shoved around. Eventually he went down, so I kicked him in the shoulder, and someone else poured a beer all over him. Dickhead.
Some flanno wearing mulletted bogan got on the stage, and one of the guys from MC5 just pushed/kicked him off stage with his foot. He went onto the crowd, but no one was much interested, so he ended up going down pretty quickly.
I stayed in the crowd until about midnight, when the crowd just become unbearable.
We all moved back over to the bar where we started, and watched the end of the show.
My mate bought a CD, they'd actually recorded the performance, and were selling it at the show, pretty cool. He also bought a poster, and lined up to get it signed.
I stood around and waited.
Some woman came over and asked if I'd been to see The Who, she had a thick American accent, she must have been the wife of one of the members of MC5.
We chatted for a few minutes, they'd gone on Wednesday too, the promoters had given the band tickets to go.
She asked if I'd knew what was up with Roger Daltrey's neck, didn't he used to have one?
Heh, we had a couple of jokes about that, and then she went back behind the table where the band was signing stuff.
As I waited more for my mate to get his poster signed, someone else came up and asked about The Who. I chatted to him for a few minutes, and then he left.
My mate finally got his poster signed, and we left.
We went back to the car, headed about 2/3 of the way home, and went into a servo.
We got some food/drinks, got back in the car.
It was at this point we realised we all had ringing in our ears. Here we go again. After I saw The Hoodoo Gurus recently, it was like 3 days before the ringing went away.
At least it's only in my left ear this time.
We came up the freeway.
I got dropped off at the train station, and I went to my bike, I got on, and then tried to find my way out of the parking station.
The signs are useless, I'm just following the exit signs, and at one point, you end up in a loop, of just going up and down between two levels.
I eventually ended up right back where I started/parked, and then found the way out.
I came home, and wrote this blog. I'm going to bed.
