OK, it's 2am, I've just got back from seeing The Who. It was unreal. I'll start from the beginning..

I got up, got ready, Dad dropped me at the train station, I caught the train to work today, so I could head into the city easily after work, not have to worry about finding parking (not that hard on a bike though) and be able to have a few drinks.

I got to work, worked all day as usual.

A bit after 4pm my mate rang me, they'd just got off the freeway.

I went in and got changed, I'd taken my green leisure suit to work with me, and my The Who shirt that I bought off eBay recently.

I knew I wouldn't get away with sitting around in a green leisure at work all day. It was lucky I didn't try either.. they'd arranged to have a group photo taken, which I'd been up and been in an hour or so earlier.

Anyway, I got changed, grabbed just the stuff I needed (tickets etc) and went across to the train.

It turned up a few minutes later, and I jumped on, got a seat. No one commented on my suit, but I saw a couple of people having a good look.

I thought about getting off at Town Hall, and walking to the restaurant from there, but it's a bit further.. I stayed on the train to go to Central.

As we were just about to pull into the station, the train just parked in the middle of nowhere. It was there for ages.

They finally made an announcement, that there would be a delay because there was a train on the platform in front of us. Ok, fair enough.

About 10 minutes later.. another announcement, apparently the train in front is "undergoing mechanical repairs". A collective sigh/groan goes up from the whole train.

About 20 seconds later we start moving, and pull into the station, I bail off the train, head for the exit.

I'm out on the street, heading towards Chinatown/the entertainment centre.

While I'm waiting to cross the street, some guy asks me if I've got $1.90, since he's $3.90 short on his bus fair back to Brisbane. He showed me that he had a $50 note, he just needed another couple of bucks, and the crappy bus driver wouldn't let him on without it.

I gave him $2, he's not a bum, he did have $50, and his story sounded plausible. I had a pocket full of shrapnel anyway.

I got across the street, and some guy asks me if I'm going to see The Who, (no, I just like wandering around in a green leisure suit and a The Who t shirt for fun), I chatted to him for a couple of minutes while I continued down the street, he asked me if I knew who the opening act was, but I couldn't remember. (You Am I).

He went one way, I went another, he said seeya as he walked off.

I got to the entertainment centre, called up my mate, to ask where the restaurant was from here, I had a rough idea, but couldn't remember. He gave me directions, and then I was able to remember, so I rocked up to the restaurant a couple of minutes later.

We had dinner, and then we went back to the entertainment centre.

We were in there before 8pm, so we sat and had a few drinks while we waited for the doors to open.

While we drank, we overheard the bar staff talking about the timing of the performance, You Am I between 8pm and 8.40pm, The Who come on at 9.10pm.

Hmm, 1/2 hour to kill in between, what'll we do? they could show us an episode of The Simpsons I joked. My mate commented they could show us The Who episode.

We went in about 8pm, the seats were good, second front row of the balcony section, and right near the stairs/exit which made for a quick escape, and convenience.

We sat down, chatted for a bit, and You Am I came on about 8.10pm.

They were good, on par with when I saw them recently.

They went off at about 8.45pm.

We ducked out and went to the loo, I got some maltesers on the way back in.

The Who came on about 9.10pm, they started with "I Can't Explain", which was unreal.

It just got better from there.

Here's the setlist:

I Can't Explain
Substitute
Anyway Anyhow Anywhere
Baba O'Riley
Behind Blue Eyes
Real Good Looking Boy
Who Are You
5.15
Love Reign O'er Me
Drowned
Eminence Front
The Kids Are Alright
You Better You Bet

I think they went off at this point, the clapping was just constant for about 5 minutes, and then they came back on, and did the following in encore:

My Generation / Old Red Wine
Won't Get Fooled Again
Pinball Wizard
Amazing Journey / Sparks
See Me Feel Me
Listening To You

I noticed towards the end a bunch of people right up the back dancing around. I thought about going up there, but by the time I would have got up there, it would have been finished.

It was absolutely brilliant. The sound, lighting, timing, everything, nothing could have been done better.

They're releasing the show on CD (which they made an announcement about at the end), I'll have to order it.

Towards the end, Pete hinted at them coming back "soon", I hope they do, I'll go again, and I'll probably get gold tickets down on the floor next time.

We came out, wandered back, jumped in the car, came back up the coast, and my mate dropped me off at home.

I got on the website (www.themusic.com) to order the CD set, but the site was getting hammered, and was unusable. (it also doesn't work properly in Firefox, so I had to try using Internet Exploder).

I gave up and went to bed about 2am. I put The Who's greatest hits on, but it was a bit of a let down, it's all mono, and sounds almost accoustic, compared to tonight's effort.

Brilliant.
